Do you have morning rituals that make starting the day easier and more centered? It is no secret that some of the world’s most successful people rise early and have set morning rituals. Benjamin Franklin was a firm believer and adopted somewhat of a strange practice himself.
“....I rise early most every morning, and sit in my chamber without any clothes whatever, half an hour or an hour, according to the season, either reading or writing.”
Now this may be a little...extreme but I can certainly get on board with that quiet time reading and writing. But morning rituals are more than simply eccentric preferences: their connection to success is firmly rooted in science. Researcher
Steve Kay, a professor of molecular and computational biology at the University of Southern California, notes:
When it comes to doing cognitive work, for example, most adults perform best in the late morning. As body temperature starts to rise just before awakening in the morning and continues to increase through midday, working memory, alertness and concentration gradually improve.
It can certainly be a struggle to wake earlier to set this time but I feel this time is so important for our mental health and overall success throughout our day.
Move your body
Even just 10 minutes of exercise can have such an impact on your mood, productivity and your health. Yoga can be a great way to get the blood flowing and warm up your body to take on the day. The great thing about yoga is its not only good for the body but taking the time to clear your mind is essential for mental health too.
Cuppa Tea
With so many health benefits of tea, including tea in your morning rituals is really a must. A lot of us are notorious for not having enough water on a daily basis. Another health benefit of tea is that, irrespective of whether it is consumed iced or hot, helps in hydrating the body throughout the day. A cup of tea in the morning provides the body with its normal intake of fluids for that time of the day and helps in being hydrated all throughout the day. While green and whites teas are rich in antioxidants and low in caffeine, the black and oolong teas are quite high in caffeine to give you the boost you may need.
